Sonicating For Liposomes

Ultrasonic Cleaner

Our Special Ultrasonic Cleaner Is The 'State Of The Art' For Making Research And Laboratory Quantities Of Liposomes!

Besides making liposomes you can also use this instrument to: do transfections; split DNA; disrupt cells (even plant cells); make difficult emulsions; make micelles; dissolve problem materials such as proteins; etc. For over 25 years our instrument has been used worldwide to make liposomes. Because the instrument works, we have never tried to upgrade it (make it solid state). IT DOES THE JOB. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". All of the "modernized" ultrasonic cleaners are not as powerful and flunk the test when they try to compete with our Special Ultrasonic Cleaner.

This instrument was designed by Dr. Ephraim Racker of Cornell University's biochemistry department over 25 years ago. Dr. Racker was one of the pioneers in making liposomes. Depending on the phospholipid that you start with, cationic liposomes can be generated in from two to three minutes, to a half hour. The ultrasonic cleaner, if necessary, can be operated in a cold room. You can use either glass or plastic tubes, vials, etc. If you chose to use a glass vessel, be sure that the glass is not scratched. If the glass is scratched, the ultrasonic sound waves will break the vessel. You can work with your sample in sterile tubes or under an inert atmosphere. This cannot be done with a probe. If you are using transfection reagents to generate your cationic liposomes, you are literally throwing hundreds (if not thousands) of dollars away. Our instrument consists of an extra powerful generator (powered by an electronic vacuum tube) and a cylindrical tank where the action takes place. If you are currently using an ultrasonic probe to make liposomes, you may have a problem that you are unaware of. Titanium will slough off the probe and contaminate your sample. The sample then has to be centrifuged to remove the titanium. The power to the tank is 80 KHz and 80 watts. Operates on 115 volts, 50/60 Hz. If you need to operate the instrument on 220 volts, a 2 to 1 stepdown transformer is needed that has a minimum capacity of 400 watts.
